Behind a strong performance from Chase Munroe and goals from three different skaters, the Wichita Falls Wildcats (30-20-4) skated their way to a 3-1 victory over the Kenai River Brown Bears at the Kay Yeager Coliseum on Friday.

Rudy Junda, Josh Haverstrom and Tyler Ledford each found the back of the net for Wichita Falls, with Will Vosejpka, Matt Koch, Kyle Bauman and Colin Staub all tallying assists in the contest. Munroe stopped 30 shots on the night to earn his 12th win of the campaign.

The first period played out evenly, but it was the Wildcats who found the back of the net first thanks to a defensive-zone turnover by Kenai River.

Koch intercepted an attempted breakout pass at the left point, held on a shot, and played a pass to Vosejpka cutting through the slot. Vosejpka dished a blind backhand pass to Junda, who smashed it five-hole for his 11th goal of the season.

The Wildcats doubled their advantage at 8:34 of the second period thanks to a set faceoff play in the offensive zone. Kyle Bauman won the draw forward, picked up the loose puck, then fed Haverstrom crashing the net, who buried it to make it 2-0.

Kenai River cut into the lead a few minutes later, as Alec Butcher wristed a shot past Munroe from the slot, but Wichita Falls wasted no time restoring the two-goal cushion.

The Brown Bears failed to clear the defensive zone, as Colin Staub made a perfect pinch at the left point. Staub then controlled the puck and hit Ledford standing all alone in front of the net. Ledford’s first effort was saved by Zach Quinn, but he made no mistake on the second attempt, stashing it upstairs to make it 3-1. The goal, coming at 15:24 of the period, was Ledford’s seventh of the season.

Kenai River ramped up the pressure in the third period, outshooting Wichita Falls 13-4 in the frame, but Munroe turned each effort aside to preserve the 3-1 win for the ‘Cats.

The Wildcats are next in action on Saturday at the Kay Yeager Coliseum when they take on the Kenai River Brown Bears on Craze E Cat Bobblehead Night. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free Craze E Cat bobblehead. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Fans that cannot make it to the game can follow the action on FASTHockey.com, as well as an audio-only broadcast on UStream.com.

NOTES: With the win, the Wildcats reached the 30-win mark for just the second time in team history, and the first time since the 2007-08 season. Wichita Falls finished that year with a 38-18-2 mark.
