Hundreds of people took steps Saturday to make sure their personal information doesn't fall into the wrong hands.
Hundreds of people took steps Saturday to make sure their personal information doesn't fall into the wrong hands.

The Better Business Bureau and The Paper Pig teamed up for the annual "Secure Your ID" day.

Together, they shredded people's sensitive documents for free.

What gets shredded, gets recycled and turned into toilet paper.

Organizers say it's important to make sure you shred all documents that have your name, bank account numbers and social security number to prevent thieves from stealing your identity.

They say throwing the papers away is not good enough because thieves go looking for your information.

“The identity thieves like to dumpster dive so your information may wind up in the wrong hands if you just throw it in the trash because the thieves are always looking for that type of sensitive information,” says Monica Horton with the BBB of North Texas.

The Better Business Bureau has a list of papers that should be shredded for more information just visit their website.
