BBB Warns of Facebook Scam

Watch out for a scam involving a "Facebook Lottery"
The Better Business Bureau is warning Texomans of a scam on Facebook.

Wichita Falls resident Sue Hicks says she was contacted by someone claiming to work for Facebook.

The person said Hicks had won $1,000,000 through the Facebook lottery.

Afterwards, another person messaged her... saying she had in fact only won $500,000.

Hicks was then contacted by a number with a 770 area code.

The person claimed to be a courier and that Hicks had a pacakge waiting for her, and all she had to do was make a series of payments to get the package shipped.

"They were very persistent, but i knew it was a scam because of mispronunciation and the wording was not proper English," said Hicks of her interactions with the scammers.

BBB officials say when in doubt... avoid communication with those you don't know.

They also suggest only friending people you know and say to never give out your personal information.
