Black-eyed Pea Day is Saturday at the Farmer's Market

This weekend at the Downtown Wichita Falls Farmer's market, staff at Parkway Grill and The Pelican will be cooking up some free treats for market-goers.

Charlie-Thornberry farmers are celebrating their first home-grown black-eyed pea crop in about three years.

Farmers say they planted the peas before the last frost of the season, just in time for late spring rains to come along and help grow plenty of peas.

The past three days worth of rain have solidified the crop.

So to celebrate, staff of Parkway Grill and The Pelican along with Charlie-Thornberry farmers are whipping up some recipes for you to enjoy free-of-charge.

You'll get to sample black-eyed peas and smoked ham, Mexican shrimp cocktail, and grilled honey mint melon.

That's at the Downtown Wichita Falls Farmers Market this Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m.
