Bowie City Council Recommends Higher Water/Sewage Fees

The council also denies a natural gas rate increase from Atmos Energy.

Bowie residents will see their water rates increase by 2.5% over the next three years.  That was the decision Tuesday night by city councilors.

The vote was unanimous.

The council also voted unanimously to recommend a 1.5% increase on the sewage rate.

A committee determined Bowie is losing capital each year because of lower than average rates on water and sewage fees

City manager, Ricky Tow says that's due to requirements placed on Bowie by state and federal regulations.

Councilors also voted to deny a natural gas rate increase requested by Atmos Energy.

A group of Texas cities is trying to negotiate a lower rate hike.

The vote to deny the increase will allow multi-city negotiations, including Bowie to continue.
