Boy Scouts Facing Lawsuits

Violent sexual abuse, rape, and young boys scared into silence are some of the disturbing details outlined in two separate lawsuits set to be filed Wednesday, that take aim at the Boy Scouts of America.

(KING) These are the so-called "perversion files," long kept by the Boy Scouts of America.

Pages and pages of documentation on suspected child molesters within their ranks.

"You know, there's nothing else like it, anywhere in the U-S," says Attorney Mike Pfau.

Seattle attorney Mike Pfau knows the files well and the faces inside them.

Like assistant scoutmaster Charles Grewe, who was finally blacklisted from the boy scouts in 1988, after being convicted of sex crimes against several children.

Pfau says the plaintiff in a lawsuit he's filing on Wednesday morning, in King County was just one of the victims and alleges Grewe "often fondled his client, over his clothing", and on one occasion, raped him, then told him "to keep his mouth shut" about what happened because nobody would believe him.

"It's important now in their lives, to take a stand, speak out, and let the scouts know this happened and its not okay"

That's why Pfau is now handling not just one case involving the boy scouts, but several.

This one, also set to be filed on Wednesday, involves a man who served as "health officer" at a Mount Vernon Boy Scout Camp back in 1980.

He's accused of forcing a young boy "to get "completely naked" at the camp infirmary, and then sexually abusing him.

"His abuser, the health director, was booted out of scouting in 1965 in Iowa, for molesting children, and then he resurfaces 20 years later in the Seattle area"

And with some 30 years of documented abuse still to go through, you can bet, more lawsuits are on the way.

Both of the victims in these cases are now in their early 40s.

They're asking for damages in an amount to be proven at trial, for the physical and emotional suffering they claim to have endured, as a result of this alleged abuse.

And again, this appears to be just the latest blow to the Boy Scouts of America, currently under fire nationwide, for its handling of the perversion files.
