A Wichita Falls man found guilty of causing injuries that killed his four month old son and continuous violence against his wife was formally sentenced Wednesday morning.

Thirtieth District Court Judge Bob Brotherton sentenced Brent Benefield.

Benefield's mother, who testified multiple times in the trial, talked to her son and consoled him before formal sentencing occurred.

Tuesday, a 30th District Court jury decided Brent Benefield should spend 10 years in prison for injury to a child causing the death of his four-month-old son Lucas and five years for continuous violence against his wife while she was pregnant with Lucas. Those sentences will be served at the same time.

Benefield will get credit, though, for time he's already served in jail which amount to 650 days.

After formal sentencing. prosecutors read a victim impact statement from Benefield's wife, Sarah Price. In that statement, Price told the court the man Benefield is today is not the man she fell in love with.

She said Benefield is not an asset to the community and is a man who has immense amounts of rage. Price said Benefield used her for emotional, physical, and financial gain.

She asked the court and those in attendance to please not forget about Lucas.
