Brig. Gen. Kindsvater Takes Command of Sheppard's 82nd Training Wing

The commander of Sheppard's 82nd Training wing says goodbye to Texoma as he now heads to his next command in Afghanistan and that means the wing now has a new leader after today's change of command ceremony.
Brigadier General Michael Fantini will soon be on his way to Afghanistan where he will take command of Kandahar Airfield.

"When I'm out on the flight line, I'll remember the men and women of the 82nd Training Group," Brig. Gen. Fantini says.

In a ceremony Thursday morning, he relinquished his command at Sheppard.

Brig. Gen. Scott Kindsvater is the new commander of the 82nd Training Wing.

"I was in Islamabad, Pakistan deployed for a year. Before that, I was wing commander of Moody Air Force Base in Georgia," Brig. Gen. Kindsvater says.

He says his leadership won't stray far from his predecessor's.

"I'll tell you that I thought General Fantini and his family did a wonderful job and I'm just going to follow in his legacy and build on that," Brig. Gen. Kindsvater says. "My priorities have always been about mission and been about protecting our airmen and their families, and I'll focus on that."

He says the sequester won't slow him down.

"Our military follows orders of our civilian leadership and we're going to work through all those challenges and fiscal challenges that quite frankly our nation has."

While he says he has big shoes to fill, General Kindsvater says he'll continue to make sure Sheppard Air Force Base keeps producing the best airmen in the country.
