Burkburnett Man Gets 45 Years in Prison for Continuous Sexual Assault of Girl

James Petty was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child by contact.
A Burkburnett man is sentenced to spend 45 years behind bars after being found guilty of the continuous sexual abuse of a seven-year-old girl.

In October 2012, a then seven-year-old girl told authorities that James Petty had been sexually assaulting her for more than a year.

The girl told authorities the first time an assault occurred was when she was six-years old and Petty showed her a pornographic video, then began assaulting her.

When interviewed by police, Petty first denied the accusations, then he said the girl repeatedly asked him to touch her.

Petty was found guilty of one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child by contact.

Six additional charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child and one additional county of indecency with a child were dismissed.
