Buying Drinks with Counterfeit Money Lands Wichita Falls Man Behind Bars

A Wichita Falls man is arrested after police say he used counterfeit money to buy drinks at a local club.

Twenty-nine old Jonathan Durant is in the Wichita County Jail charged with forgery. His bond is $20,000.

Police say Saturday night, Durant was at Whiskeyta Club on Gregory Street and used counterfeit $100 bills to buy drinks for several different people. Police say he gave a fake bill to four different patrons so they could buy drinks then return the change to him.

Police say Durant's actions should make anyone at a club think twice about getting something for nothing.

"People should always be aware, especially if somebody is wanting them to pass a high quantity bill for a small purchase in order to get the change back.  You know, that should be a red flag," says Officer Jeff Hughes, with Wichita Falls Police Department.

Police say a Whiskeyta employee called police after noticing each $100 bill had the same serial number. Police found Durant at Old Town Saloon on Call Field Road and arrested him. And police say Durant had at least 10 more counterfeit $100 bills in his possession.
