If you have a need for speed and can appreciate a nice ride, Nocona is calling your name this weekend as the second annual Crusin' Nocona gets rolling.
Cars from different eras rolled down Nocona's main drag on Thursday afternoon for the Crusin' Nocona and Vicari Classic Car Auction.
Rick Laughton, a car enthusiast for Bowie, says it is more fun to drive the cars then to just have them sit there and show them off.
Laughton along with other car fans are racing to the Classic Car Capital of Texas and home of the famous Horton Classic Car museum for a chance to get up close and personal to vintage rides.
"It's always nice to see what's up for sale," Laughton says. "Dream a little bit. We've got our own but there's always something to see so I'm always looking.
Crusin' Nocona features everything from an antique stock 1930 Ford Model A Coupe to newer luxury cars like a 2007 Maserati Quattroporte.
Fans of the stylish wheels say they bring back many fond memories.
LB Pevehouse, a car collector out of Troy, Alabama, says, "Just crusin' and going to the drive-in movies and things like that. And the women, the girls."
Laughton says, "This is what we'd call a Henry J Gasser back in the 60s. A drag car and we used to watch these run on the local drag strips where I grew up."
Nocona Chamber of Commerce Director Joni Couresey says this year's event is already geared up to be a huge success.
"It affects us economically both in the initial impact; obviously the hotels, the gas stations, the merchants, restaurants, they see the initial impact but there's a long-term effect a lot people don't realize," Couresey says.
Whether it's a classic muscle car or an iconic sedan, Couresey says Cruisin' Nocona is sure to have spectators steering their eyes toward a dream machine.
In addition, the Vicari Classic Car auction runs on Friday and Saturday.
The gates open at 8:30 am each day.
Admission is $10 and if you plan to bid on one of the classics, you'll have to pay a $50 bidder fee.
