Chamber Names 2012 Wichitans of the Year

Chamber of Commerce Representatives say the Wichita of the Year award is a visible way to showcase individuals who do so much for the community.

Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce and Industry representatives named the "Wichitan of the Year" this afternoon: the person that past honorees feel most improves the quality of life for city residents.

And for only the second time since it's inception, the Wichitan of the Year is actually two people; a married couple.

Bob and Carol Gunn are this year's award winners.

Chamber of commerce representatives say the two are a dynamic duo.

"It's a great surprise," Bob Gunn says.  "It's a wonderful honor and we really appreciate it.  It's nothing we ever expected would happen to us.  We certainly love Wichita Falls and enjoy working our little efforts in town."

Bob Gunn says he and his wife love the people of Wichita Falls.

He says folks who live in the city have a rare determination and everyone feels big enough to do anything they want to do.

He says he and his wife love that attitude.

Bob served on the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Wichita Falls.

He also served as past president of the North Texas Geological Society.

Carol has worked at MSU and has authored dozens of published works.
