Charges Won't Be Filed in Horse Fatal Crash

An 11-year-old boy died and an 11-year-old girl received very serious injuries when the horse they were riding was struck by a pickup last July.
Charges won't be filed against the driver of a pick-up that hit a horse carrying two children last July, killing one of them and critically injuring the other.

That crash happened July 5 near the intersection of McFall and Love Roads just north of Highway 258.

The case plus an accident reconstruction report completed by a reconstructionist from the metroplex were presented to the Wichita County Grand Jury this afternoon.

District attorney's office representatives say the grand jury declined to indict the driver of the blue Chevy pick-up.

According to the accident reconstruction report, the driver was not speeding at the time of the collision, nor was he under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

DPS troopers on scene that day say the driver told them he swerved to miss a pack of dogs and ended up hitting the horse.

Eleven-year-old Jared Macias died after the accident, and Destiny Doan, who was also 11-years-old at the time, received very serious injuries.

She continues her recovery.
