Charles Dyer Back in Court

Re-Trial is underway for Stephens County man with Paramilitary Ties

A re-trial is underway for a Stephens County man with paramilitary ties.

Charles Dyer is, once again, facing charges of child sexual assault and concealing stolen property.

His first trial for those charges in April ended in a mistrial.

Officials with the Stephens County District Attorney's office say a jury has been selected, and opening arguments were made Monday.

Dyer took off just before his last re-trial was supposed to begin in Duncan last August. He was captured near Houston about 10 days later.

Dyer was charged in 2010 with a federal weapons charge, after an alleged stolen grenade launcher was found in his home while officers were investigating the child rape case.

He's known as "July 4th Patriot" among paramilitary circles.

He was acquitted of the federal weapons charge last year. In April, he went to trial for sexual assault of a 7- year old girl. When the jury could not reach a verdict, a mistrial was declared.

The retrial in Duncan will continue Tuesday in the Stephens County Courthouse. Dyer remains behind bars, with no bail.
