A donation is providing hundreds of diabetic patients at Community Healthcare Center with free eye screenings.

Since May, Community Healthcare Center has provided nearly 300 eye screenings for its registered adult diabetic patients.

Vision Quest provided the equipment and training for several employees.

Now, the center's registered patients can be screened for retinopathy, the most common diabetic eye disease that can lead to blindness.

Doctors say an eye screening typically costs between $100 and $120 and now the center is offering it for free.

"I'm on a fixed income and I'm sure you hear from people all the time and anytime you have a free service you need to take advantage of it, especially if you have diabetes or any other health concerns with your eyes," says Brenda Miller, a Community Healthcare Center patient who received a free eye screening.

Officials say of the Community Healthcare Center's 17,000 patients, more than 1,300 are diabetic

They also say that number is growing.
