A couple of surprises tonight on the city and county election front, as one familiar name tosses his hat into the race for a top position in Wichita County.

Tommy Smyth, who lost his bid for Wichita County Sheriff, is switching parties, and making a run for the office of tax assessor, now as a Republican.  But he's not alone on that side of the ballot because Clay Glasscow is also running for tax assessor.  They'll face democrat incumbent, Lou Murdock.

And, we also got word tonight, Michael Davis, who's a democrat, is running for Commissioner, Precinct 3 against Barry Mahler.

Four Republicans have filed for the 68th District State House race being vacated by Rick Hardcastle.

Republican James Frank of Wichita Falls filed for the 69th District House seat.

And no Democrats filed for the District 30 State Senate seat where incumbent Craig Estes faces a challenge from Jim Herblin of Prosper.

Also, in the 13th District race for Congress, incumbent Mac Thornberry drew one opponent in the primary, Pam Barlow of Bowie.
