Clint Eastwood has joined more than 100 Republicans in arguing that gays and lesbians should be allowed to legally wed, the advocacy group waging the legal battle against California's ban on same-sex marriage said Thursday.

Manny Rivera, a spokesman for the American Foundation for Equal Rights, confirmed to NBC News that Eastwood had signed the brief to be filed with the Supreme Court in the Proposition 8 case. 

The nation's high court will hear arguments in the case on March 26. Thursday is the last day for briefs to be filed in the case, with some advocates calling for the Obama administration to weigh in.
