Colonel Lance Bunch Takes Over Sheppard's 80th Flying Training Wing

In a ceremony this morning, Colonel Dieter Bareihs relinquished command to Colonel Lance Bunch.

A new commander is now in charge of the 80th Flying Training Wing at Sheppard Air Force Base.

Colonel Lance Bunch took command from Colonel Dieter Bareihs at a ceremony this morning.

Col. Bareihs had been in command of the 80th and the Euro-Nato Joint Jet Pilot Training Program since June 2011.

He entered the Air Force in 1989 and earned his pilot wings at Sheppard from the ENJJPT program when he was 21-years-old.

Col. Bareihs is now going back to work at the Pentagon in Washington.

Col. Bunch most recently worked at the Pentagon himself, working long-term strategy on the joint staff.

He says he's excited to now be part of the Texoma community.

"It's such a great community with a long history and tradition of patriotism," Col. Bunch says.  "My family and I are very excited to call it home for the next few years."

Col. Bunch says his mission is to continue to produce the world's best pilots for fighter aviation.
