Dozens of New Jobs Coming to Wichita Falls

More than 100 jobs are coming to Wichita Falls very good news for residents and city leaders.

The jobs are in the call center industry and as Mechell Dixon found out, the hiring has already started.

A few weeks ago, managers at the AT&T call center in Wichita Falls starting taking applications to fill 115 new customer service positions.

But according to local chamber of commerce officials several hundred more jobs may also be coming to town.

Two-hundred seventy-five people are currently employed at the AT&T Call Center in Wichita Falls.

Company officials say the employee list will soon increase to nearly 400 once 115 customers service employees are hired by the end of June.

"Everybody we bring on will have 6 weeks of training. We'll make sure everybody's really comfortable talking on the phone before we put them out there to work with our customers," says Brian Newcomb, AT&T credit and collections finance director.

Newcomb says all jobs will be full-time positions with full benefits and the pay would cap at more than $11 an hour but this company isn't the only local business that may soon bring an economic boost to town.

Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce and Industry officials are currently negotiating to bring Ulm Corporation to the city.

It's a Utah based company specializing in oil field services.

If the deal goes through chamber officials say Ulm Corporation would bring 372 jobs to Wichita Falls.

"Of those... 360 will be truck drivers. Those truck drivers will have to have a CDL license, which is the highest form of truck driving license there is. Those individuals will be paid between $65,000 and $85,000 depending on experience so the economic impact on the area is huge," says Kevin Pearson, interim president and CEO Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Ulm Corporation has been offered an incentive package of more than $1.9 million but the deal won't be official until the company finds a local building and accepts the incentive package.

Then, it is up to city leaders to approve the deal during their April 9th meeting.
