Duke Says Wichita County Jail Gets Outstanding Inspection Grade

Wichita County Sheriff David Duke says the Wichita County Jail received a surprise inspection Monday.

After a surprise jail inspection earlier this week, county officials are celebrating the results.

Wichita County Sheriff David Duke says inspectors performed a surprise inspection Monday.

He says they do so every quarter every other year.

Monday's inspection is the third inspection the jail has passed while Duke's been sheriff.

Before then, the jail had been on the high risk list, but because of the recent good grade, that's no longer the case.

"Some of the things that go with the out-of-compliance is you get put on a list of high-risk, and it's high-risk due to other issues in the jail and whatever hasn't been corrected and they're still working on," Duke says.  "We're now going to be off that list, which is good for Wichita County taxpayers."

Duke says he gives credit to the jail staff, detention officers, lieutenants, and the jail captain for turning the jail around.

He says the jail is now better than it ever has been.
