A group of Electra students is getting ready to celebrate Texas' Independence Day with special performances at the Alamo and state Capitol this weekend.

Twenty-five Dinsmore Elementary School 6th graders will make their way to San Antonio early on Friday morning.

The group will perform in "Celebrate Texas" in front of the Alamo and on Saturday, they'll walk in the parade and perform in the state Capitol's rotunda in Austin.

Dinsmore 4th grade teacher Nancy Bigbie says the annual trip is a fun, learning experience.

"We're the only ones who perform at the Alamo out in front other than the Texas Reenactment Association, so that's quite an honor."

Dinsmore Principal Fran Davis agrees.

Davis says, "This way, they have been to some of these places they are going to study about and I just think it's very important for our heritage that these students learn more about their state."

The students will also have opportunities to take some tours before making their way back on Sunday.
