Electricity Use Reaches Record Highs

This brutal summer heat is causing an overload on electric grids.
The heat wave continues and the records keep falling-- records for generation of electricity to keep us cool.

Yesterday, the state set a record for electricity use in July-- 65,787 megawatts at 5 p.m-- and that broke the record set in July of last year.  And then today, the 5 p.m. generation number was higher than yesterday's, but still below the all-time summer high set last August of almost 69,000 megawatts.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas urges all residents to conserve electricity in late afternoon hours.
