Faith Refuge for Women Preparing to Open

Faith Mission's dream of opening a homeless shelter for women and children is almost a reality.

The grand opening for Faith Refuge for Women is later this week but Mechell Dixon got a sneak peak inside the shelter today.

In just a few days, women in need of shelter and help will have a new place to go, but today, shelter officials, volunteers and construction crews were hard at work getting Faith Refuge for Women ready for Thursday's grand opening.

And it's an opening that's coming after months and months of fund raising and donation drives.

From May 2nd of last year to now, Faith Refuge for Women has come a long way.

From Hatton Road, the future shelter looks complete but inside, there's still a lot of work being done.

Crews are hammering away to finish the chapel.

Pictures and chairs are lined up waiting to be put in place and this kitchen is what shelter officials call a jaw dropper.

"When I first walked in this kitchen, it just felt like home. It felt like a candy store. It was amazing," says Faith Refuge Director of Food Services Michelle Ferguson.

But what's more amazing about this $4 million facility is that a most of the appliances and furnishings were donated.

"Aside from computers, things like that, are the beds and the beds were made for us, custom made, cause they have storage underneath and they are also equipped for a bunk bed on top," says Faith Mission Board Chairman Janice Stine.

So, over the next few days this is what will be taking place inside Faith Refuge.

"A lot of hard work and a lot cleaning and just preparations for the dedication and it will be a very worshipful, solemn affair," adds Stine.

The dedication for Faith Refuge for Women is Thursday, May 3rd, at 4 p.m., at 710 East Hatton Road.

The public is invited to the celebration which starts with a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a tour of the facility .

And Monday, May 7th, is when officials say clients will start moving in.
