Family and Friends Greet Their Loved Ones at Fort Sill

Family and friends of the 70 members of the 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade gathered at Fort Sill Monday to reunite with their loved ones as they returned from southwest Asia.
Friends and family of some Fort Sill soldiers are now reunited with their loved ones.

Nearly 70 members of the 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade were welcomed home from Southwest Asia Monday at Fort Sill.

Families swarmed across the gymnasium floor at the fitness center on the post to greet husbands, wives, family and friends. After nine months, it's the little things that families say they get excited about most.

"To eat with him. I know it sounds crazy but we like to go out to eat and try new things and nothing's as cool when he's gone," Fernandez said about her husband who returned home.

Fernandez waited for her husband at Fort Sill, excited about those small things she will once again be able to share with him. But with that excitement there were also some nerves.

Fernandez said all that was going through her mind while she waited for her husband was the fear of falling in her heels as she runs to greet him.

The excitement spread across the room before the ceremony as the families patiently waited.

"I'm excited, I'm waiting on him to come in any minute now. Yay my son is coming home," Jerri Lynn cheered as she waited for her son with her family.

The soldiers were honored for their service, but they kept the ceremony short so eager families could begin doing those things they missed all those months.

And as Oralia greeted her husband, he said he is also excited to once again share the special, yet simple moments with his wife.

"Taking her to the movies, uh maybe making some pizza and kissing her a little bit, just a little bit you know trying to keep it professional," Sergeant Fernandez told us.

It was a wonderful moment there for the Fernandez family, and for many more who are so happy to be together again.
