Family, Friends Host Fundraiser in Memory of Horse Crash Victim

The inaugural Jared Macias Ranch Bronc Riding Memorial is Saturday at the Wichita County Mounted Patrol Arena off FM 369.
The family of a boy killed after a tragic accident this past July is hosting a fundraiser in his memory this weekend.

Jared Macias passed away after the horse he and his friend were riding was hit by a truck.

Macias was just 11-years-old.

The other child on the horse, 11-year-old Destiny Doan, continues to recover from her injuries.

Les Macias, Jared's dad, says, "I put Jared on his first horse when he was three. He was a real good horseback rider and he did it every day. He liked horses. He liked bulls, too, but he liked a lot of horses, so we got together and put on a ranch bronc riding for him."

"I'm handing the belt buckles to the guys that are on the horses the longest and the winner," Doan says.

The inaugural Jared Macias Ranch Bronc Riding Memorial is Saturday at the Wichita County Mounted Patrol Arena off FM 369.

Gates open at noon and the event will get underway around one o'clock.

It'll cost $3 for members of the military and $5 for everyone else.

All the proceeds benefit Whispers of Hope Horse Farm.

Macias' dad says they picked that non-profit because Doan wants to get back on a horse one day and she'll also go through therapy there.

Les says items signed by world champion bull riders, bronc riders and calf ropers like Ty Murray, Roy Cooper, Jim Sharp, and Trevor Brazile will be auctioned off at the event.

Doan has donated several of her works of art to be auction off as well.
