Flores leads Mustangs in final day of LSC Outdoor Championships

Junior Ashley Flores earned bronze in the 1,500-meter run and pointed at the 5,000-meter distance to lead Midwestern State in the final day of the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Javelina Stadium.

The Mustangs finished with a program best 41 points taking ninth place in the meet.

Flores paced her third best 1,500-meter time of the season with a 4:37.52 finishing just behind Harding standout Ewa Zaobowska (4:33.69) and Tarleton State's Lindsey Hinton (4:36.74).

Flores still owns the 19th best provisional qualifying time in NCAA Division II at 4:32.08 set last weekend at the West Texas A&M Classic.

Junior Cristina Alcantar turned in a personal best time of 4:49.46 to place eighth in the event.

Flores led a large Midwestern contingent in the 5,000-meter run, but was the lone Mustang to point in the event placing sixth in the sluggish race with a time of 18:19.23.

Junior Gabby Ruiz paced the rest of the MSU field place 10th with a time of 18:34.46 followed by junior Michelle Krezonoski (18:35.83/12th), senior Janel Campbell (18:36.74/13th), sophomore Maira Salinas (18:57.72/16th), senior Melody Caldwell (19:10.82/19th), junior Danielle Chavarria (19:22.54/22nd), sophomore Brittany Adams (19:26.90/23rd), sophomore Ana Lopez (19:54.09/25th) and junior Cara Mack (20:10.96/27th).

Lopez became the first MSU runner to place in the LSC 800-meter finals battling to a time of 2:17.71 to finish fourth behind Texas A&M-Commerce's Brikel Bailey (2:13.58), Eastern New Mexico's Alesha Jones (2:14.12) and West Texas A&M's Rhemecka Graham (2:14.67).

Juniors Cristina Alcantar and Emma Ramirez took second and third in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase Friday night posting NCAA Division II provisional times of 11:09.26 and 11:10.33, respectively, while Melody Caldwell (11:43.58) and Danielle Chavarria (11:45.16) took seventh and eighth.

Juniors Michelle Krezonoski and Gabby Ruiz also tallied points for the Mustangs Friday finishing fourth and fifth in the 10,000-meter run with respective times of 37:22.32 and 37:28.38.
