2014 Friday Night Football Preview: Munday Moguls
The need for speed is present in Mogul land.....as in getting off to a fast start to the season.
Head coach Patrick Corcoran is stressing this point.
Last season Munday got off to an 0-3 start.
They don't want history to repeat its self in 2014.
Patrick Corcoran, Munday head football coach-"Think that is going to be important to us. And to gain confidence through the first few practices ans scrimmages and then when we get to Windthorst. To start off fast and have a good game. And have a successful game."
One UIL rule change that plays into the hands of Munday going fast is the adaption of a 40 second play clock.
Once a play ends, the 40 second clock will roll.
This rule puts the UIL in line with the NCAA.
Corcoran-"We haven't huddled up in a long time. We don't send in plays with players. Really it shouldn't be an adjustment for us. I want the players to understand it and how fast 40 seconds can go."
Mitchell Lowrance, Munday senior offensive lineman-"We are used to going fast we go fast in practice and fast all the time. So it shouldn't bother us."
In the second half of the 2013 season, the Moguls sped things up to win 4 of their last 5 games to finish 5-5.
Munday advanced to the area round where they lost in double overtime.
This year, the Moguls are youthful.
They have a good number of seniors, but they have returning players at the key positions of quarterback, running back and wide receiver.
Lowrance-"I think it is really special. We come out here everyday and do things that people don't do. It is great to get back out here and start working."
Corcoran-"Its just a matter of confidence with the kids. As far as where we can go. They are a hard group of young men. They love the game. They have a bond with each other. It is just a matter of putting the time in. The effort and get the knowledge to execute."
The Munday Moguls look to get off to that fast start on August 29th as they visit Windthorst.
