Four Texoma Counties Move from 'Extreme' to 'Exceptional' Drought

Four more counties moved from extreme to exceptional in the latest U.S. drought monitor report of the worst drought in decades.

All of Texoma and 60 percent of the nation remains in drought.

Almost 20 percent of the nation is either in highest or next highest level of drought.

In Texoma, 10 counties are in exceptional drought with Archer, Baylor, Throckmorton and Young counties moving from extreme to exceptional in the latest report.

Eight counties are in extreme drought and four are in the third highest level, severe.
 
In Texas and Oklahoma, the drought intensified due to dry conditions compounded by high winds and temperatures. 

By land area, 46% of Texoma is in the highest drought level, 36% in the next highest level, and 18% in the third highest.
