Generous Donation Allows SAFB Main Pool to Remain Open

Thanks to a generous donor from a Wichita Falls business, the main swimming pool at Sheppard Air Force Base will remain open this summer.
Since Stage 5 water restrictions are in effect in Wichita Falls, maintaining a swimming pool with hauled water is expensive. And, the hefty pricetag of well water caused Sheppard Air Force Base to decide not keep its four pools open.

But thanks to a generous donor, the base's main swimming pool will stay open this summer, after all.

Base officials say the main pool was supposed to close Wednesday but Wichita Falls business man, Jodie Wade, stepped in and took steps to keep at least one pool open.

Wade contracted a local hauler, that is approved by the city, to keep the pool full for airmen and their families.

He called the base last Friday to present his offer and it became a done deal just four days later.

"For what these people do for our country.  What's a cost?  I doesn't matter.  We just need to jump in and help it's good relations with Sheppard AFB that they know people in our community step up and help them in a time a need," says Jody Wade, who donated paying for hauled water for the pool at Sheppard AFB.

Wade did not want to reveal the cost but says the pool will require about 25,000 gallons of water a week to keep it topped off.
