Grand Jury to Hear Murder Case Next Month

Billy Jack Stevens Sr. was found dead in April.
The Archer County Grand Jury has still yet to hear the case of a man who was found dead from blunt force trauma in Megargel four months ago, but district attorney's office officials say the wait is winding down.

The body of 54-year-old Billy Jack Stevens Sr. was found on April 23 by a passer-by.

Archer County investigators say Stevens was in the front yard of a home in the 600 block of 5th St. with injuries that were consistent with blunt force trauma.

Sheriff's officials say no arrest has been made but they do have a "person of interest."

The sheriff's office has turned over the case to the district attorney.

Officials originally told us the grand jury would hear the case on August 5 to determine if there is enough evidence for an indictment.

Now they say the grand jury will hear the case September 9.
