Greatest Generation: Robert Fenn III

This month's recipient of the Greatest Generation award says the best moment of his life was returning to the states at the end of the war... And watching hundreds of Americans hanging out of skyskrapers waving and cheering his ship into port.

This month's recipient of the Greatest Generation award says the best moment of his life was returning to the states at the end of the war... And watching hundreds of Americans hanging out of skyskrapers waving and cheering his ship into port.  Robert Fenn Jr was born in Mississippi and moved to Wichita Falls after college to work for an oil business.

He married Elizabeth Thomas in 1941... and Elizabeth's father, who was working as a mailman, was actually the one to hand-deliver Fenn his draft notice.  Fenn deployed to England and served in a logistic and administration unit- one of his duties was to send men to the front lines.  He still remembers the first thing he did when he arrived back on American soil.

Robert Fenn III: "I think I kissed the ground. It was a great feeling to be back home. I had been overseas for a long time."

Fenn will turn 95 on Christmas Eve.  The Wichita Falls High School Choir performed during today's ceremony- Fenn's great-grandaughter is a member of the choir.
