Habitat Now Part of Youth United Program

The local chapter of Habitat for Humanity is recruiting kids and young adults ages five to 25 to build a house all by themselves.
The Wichita Falls chapter of Habitat for Humanity is now one of just 30 chapters in the nation to be designated a Youth United chapter.

That means children and young adults ages five to 25 will build a home within the next year.

Habitat representatives say volunteers will learn valuable leadership, critical thinking, and decision making skills when the participate.

But there's a hurdle they must jump before they'll be able to build.

Chris de la Garza, director of volunteer services, says, "Between now and May 1, the need to raise $45,000. That's what it takes to build a habitat house for one of our homes. So for them to be able to build their home next summer, they need to raise the money to get the slab poured."

To get local youth excited about participating, Habitat is hosting a kick-off rally this weekend.

That's Saturday starting at 1 p.m. at Scotland Park.

There will be hot dogs, drinks, live music, and a bounce house for children and young adults to enjoy as they sign up to be part of the Youth United team.
