A fatal crash that took the lives of a Chillicothe couple has been ruled accidental.

Officials say 26-year-old Cristina Cruz and her husband, 31-year-old Nicolas Cruz, died in a head-on collision while driving separate vehicles. State troopers say speed and failure to yield played a role in the crash.

It happened last week near Odell, at a farm where both worked. Officials believe Cristina and Nicolas were driving to separate buildings on a narrow county road. The couple regularly used their own vehicles at work.

State Trooper Tony Fulton says investigators are trying to determine if one of the drivers was driving too close to the center of the roadway. There is also a crest on that road near the scene of the accident.

He says neither driver was wearing a seat belt.
