Helicopters Now Banned from Landing Near Wichita Falls Homes

City councilors adopt an ordinance that prohibits helicopters from landing near residential dwellings after they got wind of a Wichita Falls resident wanting to land a helicopter in his backyard.
A Wichita Falls doctor's plan to use his backyard as a helicopter landing pad prompts city councilors to take action today.
In a 5 to 2 vote, councilors adopt an ordinance that prohibits helicopters near residential dwellings.
The ordinance states a pilot cannot land a helicopter within a 300 foot radius of a residence, otherwise, they'd face up to a $2000 fine.
Officials say a doctor who lives in the Tanglewood neighborhood off Seymour Highway wanted to use his backyard as a helipad.
Councilors say several residents in the neighborhood contacted them over safety concerns about the helicopter landing near homes and that's why they decide to take action.
