Hirschi Students awarded a Large Scholarship

Five Hirschi students with the Wichita Falls Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering were awarded more than $20,000 in scholarship money today.
Five Hirschi High School students will be going to college in the fall with a large scholarship after an award ceremony on Saturday.

It's all thanks to their participation with the Wichita Falls Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering programs, or TAME for short.

Kirby, Barwise Junior High and Hirschi High School have all participated in programs with TAME.

The five Hirschi students earned about 21 and a half thousand dollars in scholarship money for their math and science test scores at state and regional competitions.

Wichita Falls TAME chair Ed Downing says this is the best year they've ever had for scholarships in Wichita Falls.

"What they've been doing all year, is practicing with the regional competition where they test in math and science, then they went to a state competition in math and science," Downing says.

Downing says they hope to now be able to recruit students from other schools in the area.
