Holliday Family Hoping for Baby; Raising Money for Surgery to Help

A Texoma family is hoping for a bundle of joy, but they need some help to make their wish come true.
A Texoma family is hoping for a bundle of joy, but they need some help to make their wish come true.

Michelle Gunter suffers from endometriosis, a condition that can make having kids difficult or even impossible, but she and her husband do have some options.

Before Michelle and Roper Gunter can have a baby, Michelle needs two procedures, one to fix the problems caused by endomietriosis and then In Vitro fertilization.

They say deciding to move forward with the procedures has brought them closer together, but it hasn't always been easy.

“A lot of self doubt and a lot of anxiety, a lot of depression and a lot of going, I know he loves me but maybe it'd be better for him if he had someone else that could do that,” says Michelle Gunter.

They decided anything is worth trying, in the quest to expand their family...But the surgeries come with a hefty price tag.

“One surgery is worthless without the other, unless we raise the 21,000 dollars, it's not worth putting her through a surgery, if we can't do the follow up surgery,” says Roper Gunter.

That's when friends and family stepped in to help.

“It's just natural to step up and say you know what roper's been there for everybody else, let's step up and help roper a little bit,” says family friend J.R. Mellow.

“They're two people who deserve a family, I mean you'll never meet a married couple that's like them, ever, and I just decided I'm gonna step up, we're gonna get this money,” says family friend Cindy Booth.

J.R. And Cindy are both planning a variety of fundraisers to help the Gunters raise the money, an experience the couple calls humbling.

“It instantly made me proud of where I was from,” says Gunter.

And if they surpass their goal, the Gunters say they want to pay it forward, donating the extra money to local charities.

“We don't need help raising a child, we just need help making a child,” says Gunter.
