Hotter'N Hell Hundred Organizers Need Volunteers

The Hotter'N Hell Hundred ride is approaching and organizers still need volunteers and host homes.
August has arrived, which means it's almost time for the 33rd annual Hotter'N Hell Hundred ride, and as the event approaches organizers need your help.

"We do ask for host home support. This year it's even more challenging because we have had some hotel issues that have left us lacking even more in those rooms. So we really are encouraging people to get involved and open up their homes," Public Information Officer Julie Ayres says.

With the New Grand Hotel looking more and more like it won't be open for riders who prepaid to stay there for the ride, the need of host homes is critical. However, this is not the only challenge they are facing.

"Right now we're a little bit behind on volunteers. It usually picks up towards the end but now that's what we're trying to do is to fill that gap up," Duke Osborn with the American Red Cross says.

Filling all the positions and finding beds for all the riders is a much more challenging task than it was in the first years, as the ride has grown from 1,200 to around 13,000, which means it requires nearly 4,000 volunteers.

"I just think that some people are just a little hesitant because every year we get so many people that are jumping at it and it fills up so fast that I think some people might have thought that it's already full, but right now we've got so many openings," Osborn says.

Osborn says it's not only a great way make good memories for thousands of riders, but also for yourself.

"There's a lot of people that come out, get involved, they go ahead and have a lot of fun with it. And you see a lot of people that get out there and are always talking about it," Osborn says.

If you would like to participate and volunteer in the Hotter'N Hell Hundred this year, contact Duke at the American Red Cross at (940)-322-8686.

If you would like to offer your home as a host home, you can contact Marie Libby at (940)-723-2741 or you can visit www.hh100.org/lodging/host-homes

Organizers are also looking for volunteers tomorrow for the Hotter'N Hell Hundred shirt rolling party at 5pm in the Hotter'N Hell Hundred building on Scott and 2nd Street.
