Jet Car Turns Heads

Vehicle designed to break land speed record on display in Austin, Texas.
(KXAN) The National Instruments Week conference in Austin, Texas is showing off some of the coolest developments in technology, like a jet car being used to break the land speed record.

Although this technology seems out of reach for most people, engineers say it can inspire innovative ideas for solving real-world problems.

"This is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time, period," said Doug Norton, a conference attendee.

One year from now, Ed Shadle will pilot the North American Eagle in an attempt to break the current land-speed record of 763 mph.

"Especially when you go into full afterburner, the acceleration rate is dramatic," Shadle said. "It really pushes you into the seat."
