For more than six decades the Kouri family owned and operated Kouri's Supermarket right here in Wichita Falls.
The Kouri's were famous for their personal service and delicious top quality meat...
Now another link to that bygone time of corner grocers who knew you by your first name is gone..
Jimmy Kouri passed at the age of eighty four after years of battling heart disease.
Friends and family members are paying respect to the man they say was not only a great grocer but a man devoted to serving his community and being a good father.
Eddie Randle has a look in the life of Jimmy Kouri.

He was a very hard worker he always put his family first everything he did.

Jimmy Kouri is remembered by friends and family as one of the owners of Kouri's Supermarket,
A store he opened with his father, Sam,  and two brothers, Sammie and Samuel,  in 1941.
That store would remain a flourishing business in Texoma for more than sixty years.

I know he was very proud of it and he took great pride in his work. He was very kind, very generous, very good hearted and willing to do anything for anybody.
Jimmy was born in 1928 in Oklahoma City.
His family moved to Wichita Falls in 1941 the same year they opened the family business.
In 1950 Jimmy was inducted to Army during the Korean and rose to the rank of SGT in his two years of service.

He was also military police at ft. Hood and he was also apart of the atomic bomb testing in the navada desert.
In 1955 he married Thelma Andrews and they spent 55 years together and had three sons.
In addition to working in the family store and being a devoted father Jimmy also gave a lot of his time to his church.

He was a member of the Greek Holy Orthodox Church and was their board president for three years.
Chip says his father was very playful and humorous but always made sure his children knew the importance of hard work.

My father did teach all three of us to get anywhere in this world you must be hard working you must be honest you must have integrity so each day in our own careers we do carry that with us and strive to be the kind of a person he was.
