Job Outlook for Recent Texoma Grads is Looking Up

Hundreds of MSU students walked across the stage and picked up their diplomas Saturday.

And as they transition to the working world their chances of finding a job in the area seem to be a little better than in years past.

College graduates across the country are now looking to put what they learned into action and for the ones newly out of school the future is looking bright.

“Last year there were not quite as many positions around this same time, right now companies may not be hiring just yet but after the 1st of the year they have said that they would be hiring and they are starting to look for the hiring positions,” says Express Employment Owner Tandy Kimbro.

Kimbro says the graduates who are the most sought after right now are in the marketing and manufacturing fields.

But if you haven't scored that dream job yet she says there are ways to make sure you get what you are looking for in any field.

“Mainly just to follow up because a lot of companies, they do get inundated with applications but it's those who constantly follow up will more than likely get the calls back,” says Kimbro.

She says the follow up is more important than ever since most companies evaluate you through the internet.

“Everybody says you know your first impression is the most important one, well it's hard to make a first impression just through the computer, so it really a little bit more difficult,” says Kimbro.

She says not being able to make a first impression in person just means recent grads will have to work a little harder to get the job they are hoping for.

“Do your research on the companies that you are applying with, that would be the main thing, know what they like and know and know what is going to set you apart,” says Kimbro.

And Kimbro says it's also important to realize just because you have your degree doesn't necessarily make you qualified so grads need to realize you have to be willing to work your way up.
