Lawton PD Identifies Victims in Monday's Double Homicide

Two people are dead after an apparent break-in and shooting this morning in Lawton
The City of Lawton almost made it through the first three weeks of the new year without a single homicide. But Monday, the Lawton police department is investigating three. Just after 2 a.m., at a home in 1100 block of East Columbia, police say a first degree burglary ended in a double homicide.

Lawton police say a father and his two sons were watching television early this morning when two masked men came through a back door. And police say when those unexpected visitors left that father and one son were dead, leaving a second son devastated.

Crime scene tape is keeping everyone away from this house on Columbia street. It's where Lawton police say an early morning break-in ended with the fatal shooting deaths of 49 year old Uwe Rushing and his 13 year old son, Stefan.

"There was also a third individual in the house.  He was 18 years of age.  He was not injured.  He was able to get a shotgun and shoot at the suspects while they were in the house," says Capt. Craig Akard, with Lawton Police Department.

Capt. Akard says that son was able to give police a description of the suspects.

"After subsequent interviews with the 18 year old, we're not for sure that it's black males.  We're pretty sure they're darker skinned but we're not sure if they're black males," says Capt. Akard.

But police say they're also not sure if the fatal shooting is connected to a recent incident at this house.

"A suspect came up to the front door of this same residence and confronted the father. There was not physical activity in that incident, but there was an argument at the front door," explains Capt. Akard.

Police are still searching the home to try and determine the motive and if anything is missing. before they remove the tape and release the home. The 18 year old son is now living with relatives as police continue their investigation into Lawton's first and second homicides of the year.

At last report, no arrests had been made.
