Although Wichita Falls hasn't seen much rain this weekend residents on a street that often floods will soon not have to worry as much bout the forecast.

Wichita Falls' city councilors awarded the construction bid for the McNiel drainage project on Tuesday.

North Texas Contracting will be doing the improvement work.

The project will give residents on McNiel extra drainage to prevent flooding and will make improvements to Southwest Parkway by building a new turning lane and inclosing drainage boxes.

The project is expected to cost about 6 and a half million dollars.

Some of that cost will be covered by TxDot.
