Mother Speaks About Daughter Who Died in Apparent Murder-Suicide

The mother of a woman Wichita Falls Police say was killed in an apparent murder-suicide speak about her daughter's troubled marriage.
Police believe 44 year old Marcos Pardo shot his 30 year old wife, Amanda, on Thursday before turning the gun on himself.

Lisa Corrales says Marcos Pardo met her daughter and started a relationship with her 17 years ago. She says Marcos was in his mid-20's and Amanda was just 13.  Corrales says she accepted the relationship because it's what her daughter wanted but she says Pardo's controlling nature always made her fear for her daughter.

Then,  last Thursday, her worst fear became a reality.

"My family is very strong behind me.  They're my backbone right now," says Lisa Corrales, the mother of Amanda Pardo.

Lisa Corrales is leaning on her family for strength as she prepares for the funeral of her 30 year old daughter, Amanda Pardo. Amanda was shot on February 27th outside the home of her estranged husband, 44 year old Marcos Pardo.

And Corrales says there are rumors she wants cleared. One is that the married couple lived together. She says they did not.

"Amanda did not reside at 1608 Bluff.  Amanda resided at 406 West Central," Corrales says.

Corrales says two months ago Amanda moved into her own apartment with two of the couple's four children after reportedly enduring years of mental and physical abuse.

"She told me 'Mom, I need to get away from him. He's threatened me. He's hurt me. He's told me scary things and I'm afraid,'" Corrales says.

At the time of her death, Corrales say her daughter was looking forward to starting a new job. But on February 27th, her new life came to a tragic end. Now, this mother who says she was never able to spend quality time with Amanda because of Pardo's controlling ways, is bringing her daughter home.

"The second I heard United Regional, they said your daughter has passed.  Oh my God.  I told Rosa.  I'm cremating her.  I want her home.  She wanted to come home.  I'm bringing her back," Corrales explained.

Amanda's family says during the course of Amanda's marriage she took out at least one restraining order against Pardo and filed for divorce in 2009, but then reconciled with him. They say Amanda also planned to file for divorce again, but never got the chance.

Amanda's funeral is set for Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Marcos Pardo's funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the same church. The couple's children are now in the custody of Child Protective Services.
