MSU's Carter tabbed LSC Defensive Player of the Week

Leading the Mustangs on both ends of the floor, Carter paced MSU to a pair of Lone Star Conference victories with a 67-63 road win at Angelo State and an 81-59 thrashing of Texas A&M-Kingsville at Ligon Coliseum.

The 5-10 junior forward from Angleton, Texas posted consecutive 20-point games, including her seventh double-double of the season during the week with her season-high 21 points against A&M-Kingsville and her 20-point, 12 rebound performance at Angelo State.

Her defensive play helped MSU hold A&M-Kingsville to shooting only 29.0 percent from the floor (16-of-55), a season-best in field goal defense for the Mustangs.

She led MSU in board work, averaging 9.0 rebounds for the week (6.5 per outing defensively) and averaged 3.5 steals a contest, with five at Angelo State.

For the week, Carter shot 61.5 percent (16-of-26) from the floor including 1-of-2 (50 percent) from the 3-point arc. She also connected on 8-of-10 from the free throw line and tallied 2.5 assists.

Carter joins Kiara Wright of Tarleton State who was named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week.

The honor is the second for Carter this season.

The Mustangs are idle until Saturday when they renew the Red River Rivalry with Cameron at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The women's game has been moved to 6:30 p.m., and will follow the men's game that tips off at 4:30.
