Midwestern State forward Andrea Carter delivered a career-high 25 points and notched her eight double-double of the season with 13 rebounds Wednesday night at Wisdom Gym.

But it wasn't enough to offset a 35-point, 21-rebound performance by Tarleton State's Kiara Wright as the TexAnns ended the Mustangs' three-game winning streak 78-75 in overtime.

"This is one of those games where you hate to see either team take a loss," MSU coach Noel Johnson said. "The kids battled so hard and fighting every possession. We struggled with a few short shots at the end of the game and just couldn't get the rebounds we needed."

The Mustangs, who fell to 13-8 on the season and to 5-5 in LSC play, battled tooth and nail in a game that featured 20 lead changes and 17 ties.

Wright accounted for just under half of the TexAnns' points scoring 17 in the first half, 11 in the second and had seven of the team's 13 points in the overtime period.

"Kiara Wright is a great player," Johnson said. "Eleven of that was from the free throw line which you can give and take with however the game is being called."

Carter erupted for 19 of her 25 points after halftime and has now scored 20-or-more points in each of her last four games to raise her season averages to 15.3 points and 8.9 rebounds.

"I'm really sad for the girls because they played so hard," Johnson said. "Andrea Carter got off to a slow start, but she played with her hear tonight. The way she attacked the basket with the ball in her hands was just a credit to the type of player she is."

The Mustangs, who trailed by as many as eight points in the second, rallied to take their first lead of the second half when Lisa Hampton bombed in her lone triple of the game for a 56-54 lead with 5:22 to play.

The teams would exchange seven more times in regulation before Kirsti Degelia found Carter alone on a roll through the middle of the lane in the closing seconds. Carter layed in the tying basket with 2.8 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime.

The battle continued as the teams exchanged the lead five more times before the Mustangs finally broke out to a 3-point advantage as Carter hit a pair of free throws before Shatoia Gober hit a runner in the lane for a 72-69 MSU lead with 1:56 to go.

But Wright would reel off the next seven points for the TexAnns before Dianna Jones finally broke through for a traditional three-point play to pull the Mustangs to back within a point at 76-75.

Tarleton State's Meagan O'Dell converted a pair of free throws, then Hampton misfired on an open 3-pointer from the right wing with 5 seconds to play. Wright snared the rebound to secure the win for the TexAnns.

Jones fought through foul trouble to notch her 10th double-figure effort of the season finishing with 13 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Hampton and Degelia tallied 11 points each.

Midwestern State plays host to Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
