Mustangs, UCO move twin bill to April

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State's slated doubleheader against Central Oklahoma set for Tuesday at Mustangs Park has been moved to April.

The Mustangs and Bronchos were originally st to play a twin bill at 5 and 7 p.m., but will now play April 22 at the same times.

Midwestern State plays host to No. 1-ranked West Texas A&M in its LSC opening series this weekend at Mustangs Park. The teams play a single game Friday night at 7 p.m. before closing the weekend with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m.

Midwestern slips to eighth in NCAA II Regional Rankings

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State Mustangs are ranked seventh in the second South Central Regional Rankings released on Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee.

Colorado Mesa (24-0), the defending regional champion, moved into the top position after West Texas A&M (23-2) fell to second after losing at Tarleton State last Wednesday. TSU (19-6) jumped to third with the win over WT, while Colorado State-Pueblo (20-6) dropped to fourth. Texas A&M International (19-6) remained fifth.

Texas Woman's (15-10) stayed sixth. St. Mary's (Texas) (17-8) moved up two spots to seventh, with MSU falling a position to eighth. Regis (Colo.) (15-9) is ninth and Fort Lewis (Colo.) (14-11) is 10th.

The South Central Region consists of the Lone Star, Rocky Mountain Athletic and Heartland conferences. The winners of the each league's postseason tournament gains an automatic bid into the postseason while five others earn at-large access.

The top eight teams from each of the eight regions advance to the postseason which begins March 14-17 at campus sites of the top-ranked team in each region.

The winners of each regional gain a berth in the Elite Eight which is set for Erie Insurance Arena in Erie, Pa., March 25-28.

Mustangs remain third in South Central Region rankings


WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State remained at No. 3 in the latest South Central Regional Rankings released Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Committee.

If the South Central Regional started to day Tarleton State would be the probable host site and the Texans would face Angelo State in the opening round.

Other first round matchups would feature Metro State against Texas A&M International, MSU against St. Mary's and Colorado Mines would face Arkansas-Fort Smith.

The winners of each regional advance to the Elite Eight which is set for the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind. from March 26-29.

Mustangs 17th in first ITA National Rankings of 2014

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State Mustangs are 17th in the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association's National Team Rankings of the spring.

The Mustangs (3-2) were ranked 16th in the ITA's fall preseason rankings.

Barry (Fla.) is the top ranked team, with Armstrong Atlantic (Ga.) second, West Florida third, Lynn (Fla.) fourth and Hawaii Pacific fifth.

MSU meets Armstrong and Hawaii Pacific in a few weeks during a spring break trip to Las Vegas, where it also faces No. 10 Fresno Pacific. Cameron is ranked 16th.

The Mustangs, the number two team in the ITA's South Central Region rankings, return to play on Saturday when they visit Abilene to play at Hardin-Simmons at 10 a.m., then go across town to meet McMurry at 3 p.m.
