In a game that featured several momentum swings, fourth-seeded Midwestern State made just enough plays when it counted to pull out an exciting 70-66 overtime win over Angelo State, the fifth seed of the tournament.

Trailing by as much as 15 in the first half and 10 points at the half, MSU clawed back, thanks to an improved defensive surge. The Mustangs actually grabbed a five-point lead late in regulation but ASU managed to pull even and force overtime, where the Rambelles took a two-point lead with 1:49 to play when Michelle Rosewell drilled a 3-pointer to give ASU a 66-64 lead. But Angelo wouldn't score again. After Shatoia Gober tied the score with a running jumper, Andrea Carter made the game-winning layup from a great back-door pass from Kirsti Degelia.

Angelo State missed four free throws in the final 15 seconds and MSU held on for the win, which moves the Mustangs (18-10) to the semifinal round to face top-seeded West Texas A&M Friday evening.

A loss for MSU likely would've ended its season, considering its No. 9 ranking in the latest South Central Regional rankings. The Mustangs probably need a win over the Lady Buffs Friday night to jump into the top eight spots.

On the flip side, the loss ends the season for Angelo State at 14-13.

But in the early going, the Rambelles came out hot, hitting .565 percent from the floor. They built a 30-15 lead but MSU scored eight straight points to answer and seemingly were right back in the mix. Angelo had a 35-25 halftime advantage and pushed it to 44-30 with 16:55 remaining.

That's when the Mustangs mounted a comeback and pulled to within 46-40 with 12 minutes to play. Trailing 51-45, the Mustangs went on a 9-0 run to grab a three-point lead.

In the final minute of regulation, MSU led by four before Rochelle Norris hit a jumper and then two free throws to tie the game. The Mustangs Janae McJunkins missed a 3-pointer in the final seconds to force overtime.

MSU had three players in double figures, led by Carter's 18 points, to go along with nine rebounds. Gober had 15 with six boards and Taylor Dowd scored 10, including four key free throws down the stretch.

ASU also had three double-figure scorers, led by Hillari Adam, who had 16 points and seven rebounds. Norris scored 10 of her 14 points in the second half and overtime, while Haylee Oliver had 12 and eight assists.
