While the men and women of the Wichita Falls Fire Department honored their fallen brother, Kelly Crush, fire fighters from outside Wichita Falls took it upon themselves to keep the city safe.
Fire station's all over town were manned by members of other departments on Saturday, so members of the WFFD could pay their last respects to Kelly Crush.

At Station 1, fire fighters from Fort Worth and Electra kept watch.

"It's just such an emotional event," said Captain Wayne Ross of Fort Worth Fire Department, "to lose a brother in any situation is just tragic, and for them to be going through this, our hearts pour out to them."

As Kelly Crush's funeral procession rolled by the station, the men stood unified in their support of their brothers during their time of need.

"It's hard to describe," said Chief James Auldridge of Electra Fire Department, "it's like a brotherhood between all the firemen, we were happy to come help."

Battalion Chief Lynn Holzer of WFFD said he was honored so many fire fighters responded to help his department.

"The nature of being a fireman is wanting to help. We live for the excitement of the job," said Holzer, "this is part of my family, and part of Kelly's family too, and if a family member needs some help, we're going to show up."

Although Bryan Wyrick works in Fort Worth now, his career began in Wichita Falls where he worked side by side with Crush.

"He was just fun to be around, just like everybody else up here says," explained Auldridge, "He's a cut up, a good time, never in a bad mood, always happy. Just a lot of fun."

Wyrick said he jumped at the opportunity to come back to Wichita Falls so he could pay tribute to the man who inspired so many.

A man who's courage, strength, and determination will continue to inspire for years to come.

"Kelly was a great spokesman for fire fighters all across the Nation," said Ross, "and we're going to miss him."
