NBC's Chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel and his crew are safely out of Syria after being kidnapped and held captive for five days in the war-torn country.

Engel and his crew crossed into Turkey from Syria this morning and are in good health. In a statement, NBC news said that Engel and his production crew members were freed unharmed.

Speaking this morning on the Today Show, Engel said that he believes the gunmen who kidnapped him and his crew in Syria were a Shiite militia group loyal to the Syrian government. The NBC crew were finally freed after a fire fight between their captors and a rebel group.
