No Text Zone - Virginia Wants Tougher Penalties

Lawmakers in Virginia want even tougher penalties for people texting on cell phones while driving in their state.

In addition to those tougher penalties, a new bill would also expand how you can use your phone in the car.

If you're texting and driving now, you're breaking the law.

But police can't pull you over unless you're doing something else wrong too.

But this bill could change that.

Its sponsors say people are still texting and driving - so the penalties need to be stiffer.

If approved, this new bill would enable police to pull you over for using your phone for anything other than a phone call.

Violators could be charged with reckless driving and that penalty could be hefty fines, even jail time.
